Episode 8: My Experience With Amuse.
Music distribution platforms vary in aspects such as abilities, price, and features. My Spotify distributer has been Amuse.io for as long as I have been putting music on Spotify. Recently, however, they have removed their free program and have prevented anyone on their free program from releasing music. I have reached a point with them where I understand their reasoning (they need money, and people may just be using it for the free version), but I am also frustrated. These are the pros and cons:
Pros:
No Upfront Costs: There are no upfront costs or fees to distribute music through Amuse.io, making it accessible to artists of all budgets.
Royalty Collection: Artists retain 100% of their royalties earned from streaming and sales through Amuse.io.
Fast Distribution: Amuse.io boasts fast distribution times, often getting music onto platforms within a matter of days.
Insights and Analytics: The platform provides artists with analytics and insights into their streaming data, allowing them to track their performance and audience engagement.
Cons:
Limited Services: While distribution is free, Amuse.io offers limited additional services compared to other distribution platforms. For instance, they don't offer promotion or marketing services to help artists boost their visibility.
Exclusivity: While artists retain rights to their music, they do grant Amuse.io a non-exclusive license to distribute it. This means artists can't use other distribution services for the same music.
Customer Support: Some users have reported issues with customer support, citing slow response times or difficulty in resolving issues.
Lack of Physical Distribution: Amuse.io primarily focuses on digital distribution, so artists looking to distribute physical copies of their music may need to use other services.
Quality Control: With a free model, there may be less stringent quality control compared to paid distribution services, potentially leading to issues with metadata or upload errors.
